Handmade ceramics from Brooklyn N.Y
Ashware is a handmade ceramics and design brand of Megumi Yoshida, a Japanese designer based in Greenpoint Brooklyn, who has become known for her materially elegant and minimal ceramic forms. Working primarily with slip casting, her crisp porcelain designs, such as lamps, vases, and tableware, are poetic instances within her ongoing exploration of the medium. Her thoughtful dialog ranges between Japanese tradition and western modernism, becoming evident in objects that echo the soft reduction of Brancusi-like forms or the nature-inspired geometries of Japanese Kamon insignia. Yoshida’s works traverse the boundary between functional design and the self-sustained art object.
Yoshida founded her previous incarnation brand MGMYstudio in 2007. In January 2014 she launched the new brand Ashware. All works are designed and handmade on Ash street in Brooklyn NY.
